In this parsha we encounter the command of the korban Pesach. In speaking about the command, Hashem also addresses how the korban Pesach will be commemorated in future generations:

24 And you shall observe this act as a law for you and your children forever.

25 And it shall come to pass, when you will come to the land that Hashem will give you, just as He promised, that you shall keep this service.

26 And it shall come to pass, when your children will say to you: What does this service mean to you?

27 You should respond: It is the ‘Passover’ korban, to commemorate that Hashem passed over the houses of the children of Israel in Egypt, when He smote the Egyptians, and remembering that he saved our homes. And the people bowed their heads and worshipped Hashem.

  1. Why was the korban Pesach done by the generation of Bnei Yisrael who were slaves?
  2. Why is the korban Pesach meant to be done for any generation following?
  3. Think of previous generations of your family, such as perhaps grandparents. What is a message or lesson you feel that a previous generation of your family has passed down to you? What is part of their legacy?
  4. In pairs: What message or value would you hope to pass down to your future generations?
  5. Come together and have everyone write on the board their names and their projected ideal or message for their future generations. (Maybe take a picture of it.) Discuss the reasoning, the choices, etc.

  • This is the place to raise some questions that make sure the teacher tests the limmud on themselves or others
  • Could be a general question like - which part of the limmud resonated most for you? Which question was the hardest for you to answer?
  • Or questions anticipating students’ responses- What do you think students will say for X or Y? To what extent are you open to being surprised?
